8-ish to 10:30 a.m. cover opening ceremony of makati’s international earth day celebration. meet other beat reporters and interns. interview ngo representatives and is assigned to do story on event.
10:30 a.m. head to astor suites (the former oakwood) to cover a business conference. on arrival, meet business reporter assigned to cover. ride taxi to makati city hall (old building).
11-ish. arrives at city hall press room. starts transcribing audio from interview and outlining story. reporter monitors online (inquirer.net/philstar.com/gmanews.tv/abs-cbnnews.com) and radio (dzbb) news and calls sources.
12-ish. go out to buy lunch at jollibee. other reporters also present in office.
p.m. writes human-interest environmental piece to be edited by reporter. read press release from mayor’s office/opposition group and is assigned to write news story from it. writes news story. types first story into reporter’s laptop. reads resolution of an ongoing local gov’t story.
4.30 p.m. reporters alerted to celebrity filing suit at makati prosecutors office. with other intern, go to city hall new building to retrieve affidavit. suit does not exist. alerts reporter and go back to press office.
6 p.m. does not get to type second story. reporter talks me through my first story and makes constructive comments. after which, time card is signed and am dismissed for the day.
